Announcements — March 5, 2006
Welcome! Friend, you enter this church as a guest of God. Come into God’s presence that you might walk closer to your Creator during this season of Lent. If you are a visitor, we extend to you a special welcome and invite you to see the “Welcome to Visitors”. Everyone is invited to our Fellowship Time in the Gym following worship this morning.
We give thanks to the Adult Choir, under the direction of Scott Dewese, for today’s music and to Omar Ruiz for playing percussion. Thank-you to Danny Clark for the special music provided during the 10:10 Children’s Gathering each week.
Member hospitalized last week: Betty Brand.
The flowers this morning are given to the glory of God by the family of Duncan A. Gosling by Jan, Carolyn, and Nancy.
Each week we lift up members of our congregation in prayer. Today and throughout the coming week, we ask you to remember in your prayers: Mary Jo and Dean Wiseman; Jan and Bill Bobbs; Pauline Crump; Ken and Norma Houser.
Encouragement Campaign Cards are available today during Fellowship Time in the Gym. Please take a moment to sign them.
LENTEN COLLAGE: During the six Sundays of Lent we will create a living collage incorporating the symbols of Holy Week, the last week of Jesus’ earthly life. Each week we will add a new symbol to our collage and recall its significance.
On the first Sunday of Lent we place our first symbol – a small palm – at the base of the table. The branches remind us of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, of the joy and excitement which the people felt as they saw Jesus coming to their great city. As he neared, they began to sing and wave palm branches. They had great hopes and expectations that Jesus would change their lives.
ADULT NURTURE OPPORTUNITIES TODAY:
All who have signed up for one of our Lenten Study groups are invited to attend an INTRODUCTION to the study TODAY in the Laws Room led by Nancy Howard. But wait! That’s not all. If you want to participate and just haven’t gotten around to signing up for the group that fits your schedule, this INTRODUCTION class is also for you. If you are still undecided about participating, this INTRODUCTION class is for you, too. In other words, everyone is welcome to this INTRODUCTION class. Copies of the book for the study - Soul Feast by Marjorie Thompson ($14) will be available.
NOTE: Our weekly Lenten Study groups will cover only the first four chapters of Soul Feast. So as not to miss any gem from this book, Nancy will lead an Adult Nurture class on Sunday mornings March 12, 19, 26 & April 2 on chapters 5 through 8.
YOUR BIBLE! The Study Begins, led by Barbara Newton during 10:30 a.m. Adult Nurture Time continues today in the Crump Room. This is an introduction to the library of books which are the foundation of our faith. This study provides a refreshing orientation to the Book and opens a door of understanding to all other Bible studies. Today will be the 3rd of 7 one-hour sessions on Sunday mornings. There will be some reading required during the week. Join us if you want to start with the very basics. We continue to study some basic topics like: What is the Old Testament About? What is the New Testament About? How has the Bible Been Preserved and Handed On? How Shall We Study the Bible? What Is the Place of the Bible in Our Lives?

Lenten Bible Study
Small Group Series
For March and April!
Our Lenten small group studies are scheduled. Leaders and hosts are being scheduled. Now we need YOU to find the group that fits with your weekly schedule and sign-up. Below are the available times and places. Please fill out and return to the church office or email me the group you choose to or give me a call at the church. There will also be a sign-up sheet in the Laws Room during coffee hour after Worship Service. Groups will meet the weeks of March 5, 12, 26 and April 2 (we’ve given ourselves Spring Break week off). The book we will all be using is “Soul Feast” by Marjorie J. Thompson, a Presbyterian pastor. The cost for the book will be $14. This classic book is an invitation to the Christian spiritual life from a Protestant perspective exploring prayer, worship, self-examination and hospitality. You may be asking, “Why should I spend the time?” The answer: To grow closer to God and feel God’s blessings. To grow closer to each other as you share and grow in faith together. Congregations that take the time for this kind of spiritual growth have more vitality and energy and growth. Deadline for signing up is TODAY!
