Announcements — March 26, 2006

We welcome you this morning as an honored guest or treasured member. May this
worship service give you both the blessing and challenge God offers on your journey of
life! If you are a visitor, please see the “Welcome to Visitors” section on the back of the
bulletin. Please join us for Fellowship Time in the Laws Room following the worship
service.

We give thanks to Rebecca Stenner, soprano, for today’s special music.

Today we observe DAFFODIL SUNDAY at FPC. The Daffodil is the symbol of
hope and new life. Thank you to everyone who purchased bouquets to help support
The American Cancer Society. Bouquets can be picked up after worship.

Each week we lift up members of our congregation in prayer. Today and throughout the
coming week, we ask you to remember in your prayers: Carol Berkey; Jim and Dianne
Farrar; John and Virginia Kinnaman; Carolyn and Victor Friend, Alexandra, Zachary.
Encouragement Campaign Cards are available today during Fellowship Time in the
Laws Room. Please take a moment to sign them.

LENTEN COLLAGE: Our collage, reminding us of the events of Holy Week, now
moves us from the joy of Palm Sunday to the gathering of Jesus with his disciples in the
Upper Room.

Today, the fourth Sunday of Lent, we place in the collage the grapes and wheat. These
remind us of the gifts of life given to the disciples at the Last Supper, which symbolizes
Jesus’ sacrifice and ultimate glory. The grapes represent the source of the wine which
Jesus shared and the wheat stands for the bread he offered.

ADULT NURTURE OPPORTUNITIES TODAY
TODAY Nancy Howard will lead a discussion on Chapter 7 of our Lenten Study Book,
Soul Feast. The title of this week’s chapter is “Companions on the Journey – The Gift of
Spiritual Direction”. All are welcome to join the discussion on the guidance one Christian
can offer another to help one see and name one’s own experience of God.

FIRST STEPS TO FORMING A PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE: At its
March meeting, the Session, taking its first steps towards the formation of a Pastor
Nominating Committee, decided this PNC would be composed of nine members.
Although we must have Presbytery’s blessing (anticipated soon) before we can actually
contact nominees, it is appropriate to gather names of all those willing to serve if elected.
Last fall some of you indicated your willingness to serve and those names are still in
hand. Additional names can be placed in nomination by emailing
or calling Nancy Howard (nancyh@fpccolumbus.org or 372-3783).
In considering service for this important task, please know that the average time frame
for a PNC is approximately one year to 18 months. Although it is an intensive and
time consuming service, it can also be a very rewarding experience that deepens
faith and friendships.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING: A long tradition in our church is this special
offering which reminds us of our call to share with those in our country and around the
world who are less fortunate. This year we again ask each member and family to consider
how to bring the meaning of helping others into our lives. The Session has approved a
goal of $5,000 for this offering. This is similar to our actual achievements in prior years.
The challenge is to think of some way that we spend money on ourselves and divert this
money to this offering. We are a generous church. It’s one more reason why we prosper.
To date we have contributions of $446.00.

LITTLE RED SCHOOL HOUSE: Did you know that local teachers get only 50 cents
per child per year for school supplies? This is why the Little Red School House supplies
become even more critical this time of year. Please help by donating NEW classroom
materials such as pencil boxes, paper, prizes, notebooks, reward stickers, arts & crafts
supplies... or anything a teacher might use. Look for the donation box by the Community
Table in the Laws Room during the month of March. Monetary donations are great, too,
(Checks payable to Little Red School House may be sent to the church office.)
